Aberdeen receives 22 electric double-deckers
In Scotland, Stagecoach Bluebird has unveiled 22 BYD-ADL Enviro400EV electric double decker buses. The public transport provider will put the fully electric buses into operation in the city of Aberdeen at the end of this month.
The company has invested £11.2 million in the project with £4 million support from the Scottish Government Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme. The Enviro400EV from BYD-ADL was introduced in 2019 while the Chinese-Scottish bus venture revealed a shorter version just over a year ago. Stagecoach ordered the buses in March last year. The electric buses were assembled at BYD-ADL’s plant in Falkirk, Scotland.
Stagecoach will operate the 22 electric buses will operate on service 59 and service 727. These routes connect the city centre with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, TECA and Aberdeen International Airport, as well as running through residential areas. Stagecoach says it aims to decarbonise its fleet by 70% by 2035.
Peter Knight, Managing Director at Stagecoach Bluebird said: “We are all really excited to welcome the electric buses to our Aberdeen fleet.” He took the chance to note, “Major investment in new zero-emission buses also needs to be matched by better road infrastructure and more bus priority measures to help encourage people to make the switch from car to sustainable public transport.”
