Volvo ramps up electrification and adds extras

Volvo Car USA has announced that the entire 2023 lineup of Volvo cars in the US will consist of mild hybrid, hybrid or electric vehicles equipped with built-in Google capabilities.

With the XC90 and XC40 SUVs, as well as the V60 Cross Country, now receiving mild-hybrid engines as standard (badged B4, B5, and B6), the Swedish car brand says it is making good on its sustainability commitment to electrify its full range of vehicles. This brings the company a step closer to offering only purely electric vehicles by 2030 and being carbon neutral by 2040.

With its built-in Google capabilities, Volvo has enabled Google Assistant for voice control, Google Maps as the native navigation system, and the Google Play store for additional apps. This is already standard for the full-electric C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge, the XC60, S90, and V90 Cross Countryand will now be brought to the entire Volvo Cars range for the model year 2023.

Here, along with an upgraded infotainment system, comes the ability to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates. Volvo now says that all new 2023 Volvo cars will be capable of receiving and installing software upgrades remotely. As these software updates are rolled out, each 2023 Volvo car can be expected to continue to improve over its lifetime.

Volvo Car USA is introducing a range of updates to its SUV model XC40. Both the all-electric XC40 Recharge model and the XC40 receive fresh styling updates, and the XC40 is moving to all mild-hybrid powertrain options as well as the new Google built-in infotainment system.

Visually in sync with the Volvo C40 Recharge, a new front bumper and a frameless grille plate have been added to the all-electric XC40 Recharge, aligning the two cars in the company’s “electrification journey”. Other new visuals include a new shape for the signature Thor’s Hammer headlights with pixel LED light technology.

Several models are also available with new colours, wheels, and interior options that include leather-free materials for the new model year. Volvo is making these available across the range in almost every model.
