Charge + targets 30k charging points in SE Asia by 2030

In Singapore, Charge+ has announced a target of 30,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Southeast Asia by 2030, including 16,000 in Singapore alone. This includes operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia.

The new targets were announced over the last couple of days in conjunction with the opening of new charging stations by Singapore Minister for Trade & Industry Gan Kim Yong. These are located at the HDB car park at Block 153, Jalan Teck Whye and Rainforest condominium at Choa Chu Kang.

Earlier this year, the Singapore government announced targets to reduce domestic emissions by rolling out various green initiatives across the land, air and sea transport sectors. Charge + secured a tender in November 2022 to install 4,000 charging points in Singapore, aligning with the city-state’s plan to have 60,000 charge points by 2030. In 2021, Singapore had already issued plans to clean up the taxi business, with no new diesel-powered cars or taxis to be allowed to be registered from 2025. Additionally, Singapore will stop registering new diesel vehicles from 2025.

In 2020, Charge+ announced plans to install 10,000 charging stations across Singapore within the next decade, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable electric mobility. With its newly announced target of 16,000 charging points in Singapore by 2030, Charge+ says it aims to make a meaningful contribution to Singapore’s move to phase out the purchase of new conventional vehicles by 2030. Charge+ was founded in Singapore in 2018 as part of the Sunseap Group, a clean energy business.

Ong Tze Boon, Chairman of Charge + says, “Since the founding of Charge+ in 2018, our vision is to catalyse electric mobility across Southeast Asia. We are pleased that Charge+ has grown by leaps and bounds and now surpassed the key milestone of 1,000 charging points in Singapore alone. We aim to build on this momentum to
become a truly impactful EV charging provider for Singapore and the region.”
