Solaris to deliver 46 electric buses to Sweden
The order is for 19 Solaris Urbino 12 electric models and 27 Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric vehicles. The latter are scheduled for delivery in 2025, while the 12-metre models will follow in 2026, Solaris says.
The 15-metre electric buses were first introduced in early 2020 and are designed especially for Scandinavian countries, as the demand there is high for that size vehicle. In other countries and regions, 12- and 18-metre versions are more common.
According to Solaris, the Urbino 15 LE electric ordered by Keolis “will be powered by High Energy batteries with a total capacity of 700 kWh, providing an extended operational range.” It has room for up to 72 passengers, and as it is designed for both urban and intercity transport, all seats are equipped with three-point seatbelts. The smaller Urbina has space for up to 61 passengers and is equipped with a 600-kWh battery. “The drive will feature a 240 kW traction motor and a modular drive, with components located on the roof and at the rear of the bus, maximizing passenger space,” Solaris points out.
“Keolis’ order of 46 electric buses is a significant step in sustainable mobility solutions in Sweden. We are pleased to implement zero-emission solutions in both city centres and suburban transportation, as we believe this is essential for the global transformation of transport,” said Sverre Skaar, CEO of Solaris Sverige AB.
According to the manufacturer, Solaris has already delivered “nearly 700 vehicles to customers in Sweden.” Just recently, public transport operator Nobina ordered 88 electric buses from Solaris after placing an order for 55 electric vehicles – including the Urbino 15 LE electric – in 2023.
