Bosch unveils new fuel cell power module FCPM C100 for buses

Bosch unveiled a new fuel cell system at the mobility move trade fair in Berlin that is particularly suitable for city buses. The hydrogen fuel cell system called FCPM C100 is designed for roof-mounted installation on 12- and 18-meter buses.

Bosch is already well known for its Fuel Cell Power Module (FCPM) offerings. Until now, these have primarily been used in trucks, such as the custom-built hydrogen trucks by Iveco for logistics operations at the BMW plant in Leipzig and the Bosch site in Nuremberg.

Bosch has now expanded its FCPM range to include one or two variants specifically designed for buses. The FCPM C100 delivers an output of 100 kW and features a flat design, with a height of just 40 centimetres, enabling roof mounting—a common requirement for the European market. This system is tailored for city buses ranging from 12 to 18 metres in length, includes standard CAN and diagnostic interfaces, and is designed for easy integration.

In addition, Bosch offers the FCPM C190, a more powerful variant with 190 kW output, aimed at intercity and coach buses. This version is set to begin test operations in demo vehicles in the first half of 2026 and will be installed in the rear, similar to a diesel engine in a bus. The FCPM C300, with a system output of 300 kW, has been available for some time as an energy source for heavy-duty trucks and coaches.

For clarity: although Bosch sometimes refers to the Fuel Cell Power Module (FCPM) as a fuel cell propulsion system, the solution does not include the drive motor itself. Instead, the FCPM converts hydrogen into electrical energy, which can then power a separate electric motor to drive the vehicle. Bosch also offers compatible electric motors, typically in the form of an e-axle, to complement the FCPM.

The FCPM itself comprises a fuel cell stack with anode and cathode submodules, a Fuel Cell Power Transfer Unit (including a DC/DC converter), coolant pump, high-voltage heater, and certified system control (hardware/software).
