General Motors is investing in the lithium producer Lithium Americas, thus securing access to the Thacker Pass mine in Nevada, the largest known source of lithium in the USA and the third largest in the world. General Motors wants to produce exclusively electric cars at its plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, from 2024 onwards. The revelation stems from a tweet from Mexico’s Ministry of Economy after a meeting with GM representatives.

General Motors has announced that it will increase production of its electric models due to high demand – and not only for the new Ultium vehicles but also for the ageing Bolt series. This comes despite the previous production capacity not being fully utilized.

The GM subsidiary Chevrolet has unveiled the Blazer EV. Based on parent company General Motors’ Ultium platform, the all-electric SUV will be available with a choice of front, rear or all-wheel drive.

General Motors has begun converting its plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, for the production of electric cars. For the conversions, production of the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox combustion models previously produced there will be discontinued until mid-May.

Chevrolet has unveiled the Silverado EV. The all-electric pickup truck offers up to 495 kW of drive power, up to 400 miles (640 kilometres) of range and enables DC charging of up to 350 kW. Market launch is in 2023, with prices later expected to start at under $40,000.
