Redwood starts manufacturing anode copper foil
The recycling company Redwood Materials, founded by former Tesla CTO JB Straubel, has started producing anode copper foils. In addition, Redwood has received a conditional commitment from the US Department of Energy for a $2 billion loan for battery materials.

Nikkei suggested yesterday, that Panasonic and Tesla’s plans to increase production capacity for battery cells at Gigafactory 1 have been put on ice due to financial problems at Tesla and uncertainties about future demand. While us and others could but wonder, Panasonic now took a stand that is ambivalent.

UBS analysts have recently come to the conclusion that Tesla Model 3 cells are by far the most cost-effective. Now latest estimates conclude that over 600 million cells of this type have been produced in Gigafactory 1, thus adding up to a total capacity of just under 11 GWh.
