German courts challenge Renault over remote battery termination
The German Federal Supreme Court is hearing a case to decide how much power manufacturers have over vehicle batteries in a lease. The court will decide whether it is legal for the battery of an electric vehicle to be remotely turned off in the case of an extraordinary termination of the lease.
Steer EV adds 1,000 electric cars in North America
Steer EV, an electric car subscription service from Canada, has announced that it will lease more than 1,000 electric cars worth between 80 and 150 million US dollars through a cooperation with Enterprise Fleet Management. The new vehicles should enable Steer EV to drive its expansion in the USA.
Onto raises $60Mn to bring EV subscriptions to Europe
Onto has completed a Series C funding round, collecting about 59.1 million euros from investors. The fresh capital will help Onto grow the electric car fleet for subscribers and allow the service to expand beyond the British borders. Until now, Onto had been exclusive to the UK.
Mack launches VaaS scheme for e-trucks
US commercial vehicle manufacturer Mack Trucks has launched a new Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) program. Essentially an all-inclusive leasing scheme, the company hopes to help customers manage expenses associated with acquiring the Mack LR Electric truck and integrate it into existing warranties.
Hyzon delivers fuel cell trucks to major steel firm in China
US fuel cell truck manufacturer Hyzon Motors announced the delivery of 29 hydrogen trucks to what the company considers a major steel conglomerate in China, namely Shanghai Hydrogen HongYun Automotive (HongYun). The fuel cell vehicles will haul steel coils in the conglomerate’s fleet in the coming months.
Hyundai expands partnership with ride-hailing firm Grab
Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Kia, announced expanding a partnership with ride-hailing service Grab in Southeast Asia. The focus is now on piloting new EV business models such as leasing EVs with a battery-as-a-service model or car-as-a-service model, to facilitate the switch for Grab drivers.
Lightyear solar electric car headed for leasing market
The ‘electric car that charges itself’ thus was the slogan Lightyear entered the EV stage with in 2017. The spin-off from the TU Eindhoven’s solar team has been working on their solar EV ever since and has now found a partner in LeasePlan that will help bring the ‘Pioneer Edition’ to consumers by 2020.
