From 1 July 2026, electric vehicle drivers in Rome will no longer enjoy largely free access to the city’s restricted traffic zone (ZTL – Zona a Traffico Limitato) in the historic centre. The municipality cites the sharp rise in EV numbers in recent years, arguing that the growing volume of electric cars is placing increasing pressure on the inner city.
