Olectra Greentech to deliver 550 electric buses to Telangana

Indian bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech has received an order to supply a total of 550 electric buses to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. The order covers 50 standard-floor 12-metre intercity electric buses and 500 low-floor 12-metre electric intracity buses.

The electric buses will be delivered in phases. The 50 intercity coach buses will run between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, and can travel over 325 km on a single charge, according to the manufacturer. The other 500 electric buses will run within the city of Hyderabad, the capital of the Telangana state, and can travel over 225 km on a single charge.

“Olectra’s electric buses lower operating costs for the State-owned transport corporation,” said Venkateswara Pradeep Karumuru, Chairman & Managing Director of Olectra, adding: “The buses will be charged at fast charging stations to ensure optimal performance. The combination of high passenger capacity and low operating costs makes Olectra’s e-buses an excellent choice for transportation.”

Olectra has been on the scene for several years now and had expanded production capacities with a second factory in India in 2019. That same year, the company also announced a cooperation with the Chinese EV giant BYD. Since then, Olectra has announced two major electric bus orders within India, with 150 buses ordered by the city of Pune, as well as a major order for 2,100 electric buses from Mumbai’s public transport operator Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport.
