Apcoa launches 500 EV charge points at car parks in the UK
Parking provider Apcoa says it opened its first Urban Mobility Hub in the UK. The charging hub offers five AC chargers (22 kW) and twelve Tesla Superchargers of the latest generation. The opening is part of Apcoa pushing 500 EV charging points across the UK.
The location of the first Urban Mobility Hub is at St Catherine’s Walk Car Park in the Welsh town of Carmarthen. While Apcoa fails to detail further mobility hubs, today’s statement speaks of an additional 250 charge points with a similar combination of ultra rapids and AC charge points to be installed this quarter at “key locations” such as Banstead, Bromley Civic Centre and Sheffield.
In addition, Apcoa says it provides 460 22kW AC chargers across seven Network Rail stations, namely Welwyn Garden City, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Letchworth, Edinburgh and Reading. The company also mentions plans to increase the number of charging stations at Network Rail sites to 750 in the course of a year.
Europewide, the parking provider, is currently entertaining plans to deploy 1,000 fast-charging stations through commercial partners in Apcoa car parks. One of these partners is BP Pulse. Together, the companies aim to build 100 fast-charging hubs spread across Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK, as reported.
In September 2022, Apcoa also announced the target of installing up to 100,000 new EV charging stations in its car parks by 2035. Specifically, the company aims to install AC charging stations with 11 to 22 kW capacity at more than 12,000 locations across Europe.
