Prices for the electric estate car had initially been confirmed in June, when the £39,995 price tag had been revealed. The new Astra Electric was initially introduced in November last year when the technical specifications were also revealed: For the drive system, Opel/Vauxhall uses the same technology for the Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric that was already used for the corresponding Peugeot sister models 308 and 308 SW.

The electric drive is a 115 kW unit from the joint venture with Nidec. The electric drive is built in Trémery, France, and offers 270 Nm of maximum torque and a top speed of 170 kph. The battery has a capacity of 54 kW, which allows for a range of up to 258 miles (415 km), according to WLTP. Charging on a 100 kW DC charger takes about 30 minutes from 10-80% SoC on a CCS connection, while a Type 2 charger can take up to 8 hours on a 7 kW home wall box charger or 5 hours and 45 minutes on an 11 kW connection.

In terms of storage space, Stellantis writes: “The All-New Astra Sports Tourer Electric comes with 516 litres of luggage space, increasing to 1,553 litres when the 40/20/40 seats are folded – identical to Plug-in Hybrid variants.”

For context, the Astra Sports Tourer GSe runs on a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine connected to an 81.2 kW electric drive for a maximum torque of 360 Nm.
