Polestar Charge now fully integrates Tesla Supercharger network

The Swedish-Chinese electric car manufacturer Polestar is once again improving its charging offering, Polestar Charge, in Europe. New features include full integration of Tesla Superchargers into its own app. Additionally, Plug & Charge is already operational at 28,000 charging stations.

Polestar launched its charging service, Polestar Charge, almost two years ago in collaboration with Berlin-based company Plugsurfing. Instead of operating its own charging stations, Polestar provides a roaming solution. This network has continued to expand: while access to 650,000 charging points across Europe was announced at launch, this figure rose to over 900,000 charging points around a year ago and has now surpassed one million. Polestar does not need to acquire new charging stations itself; instead, its drivers gain access to every new charging station added to the Plugsurfing platform by a charge point operator (CPO).

A significant update has now been introduced: Tesla Superchargers are now fully integrated into the Polestar Charge app. While Superchargers were previously accessible via Polestar Charge, customers had to install the Tesla app and set Polestar Charge as a payment method within it. Polestar drivers now enjoy seamless access to over 20,000 Superchargers at more than 1,500 locations across Europe—directly through Polestar Charge, without needing to switch apps to check availability or initiate a charging session. Real-time availability of Tesla Superchargers is also visible in the Polestar Navigation system, which uses Google Maps in the vehicle, enabling optimal route planning.

Polestar Charge also introduced Plug & Charge some time ago, though this is the first time it has been highlighted in a press release. Plug & Charge is a technology that allows a charging session at a compatible charging station to start without a charging card, app, or credit card. Instead, the vehicle and charging station communicate directly, automatically starting and stopping the charging process, with billing handled entirely in the background.

Plug & Charge is available for the Polestar 2 (model year 2026) and the Polestar 3. Polestar also plans to enable Plug & Charge for the Polestar 4 via an over-the-air (OTA) update soon. Currently, over 28,000 charging stations in Europe support Plug & Charge. In Germany, more than 8,100 compatible charging stations are available, including those operated by Ionity, Aral Pulse, and Allego.

Olivier Loedel, Head of Product Software Management at Polestar, said: “With Polestar Charge we give our customers access to one of the biggest charging networks in Europe. By expanding Plug & Charge and fully integrating Tesla Superchargers, we’re improving our premium seamless charging experience even further. Our strong charging offer, integrated with the in-car navigation in Google Maps, sets us apart from many competitors.”

Using Polestar Charge does not incur a monthly subscription fee. However, an optional subscription for €13.99 per month is available, offering a 30 per cent discount on charging sessions with various partners. In Germany, this includes Ionity, Fastned, Allego, Total, Shell Recharge, and Aral Pulse. Across Europe, the discount applies to over 80,000 charging points from 42 CPOs.
