Norway to protect fjords with zero-emission zone
Norway is planning on creating the first zero-emissions zone on water. The parliament has accepted a resolution which would see emissions banned in the world heritage fjords “as soon as technically possible and no later than 2026”.

Denmark considering more funding for e-mobility
The Danish centre-right government is publicly considering to strengthen subsidies or the purchase of electric vehicles again. They had to admit that EV sales have massively dropped in the country from almost 5,000 in 2015 to 700 last year since a change in policy.

UK government extends operating licenses for vans
The British government changed the laws regarding driving permits to make alternative energy vans more attractive to the wider public. The normal drivers license now allows for drivers to drive a hybrid or electric transporter weighing up to 4.25 tons, instead of the previous 3.5 tons.

Paris considers free public transport to curb air pollution
Paris may provide free public transport if a motion by Mayor Anne Hildago overcomes the opposition. A feasibility study is to see whether such a measure would motivate more people to take the Métro. Paris transport authority IDFM, rejected the proposal despite other examples from Europe.

The silent approach of electric vehicles is seen as a danger by some and so hybrid and electric vehicles must emit artificial noises sounding their approach. The “Quiet Car Rule” was to take effect in the States next year but has now been delayed until 2020.
