USPS under more pressure to deliver 100% EV fleet
The massive climate bill that passed the US Senate this week includes three billion dollars for the US Postal Service to decarbonise its delivery fleet. Local media said the US Government “called USPS’s bluff” by supplying as much funding as USPS claimed a 100% BEV fleet would cost.

New Jersey budgets $15m a year for electric school buses
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill requiring the state’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to implement a three-year ‘Electric School Bus Program’. The budget stands at $45 million or $15m per year. It is the latest bill in a row the EV-savvy Governor has signed.

US Senate reforms electric car tax credits
The US Senate has passed the Inflation Reduction Act by a narrow majority, which also includes reform of the electric car tax credit. After the vote in the Senate, the legislative package will go to the House of Representatives this week, where the Democrats have a slim majority.

British Columbia increases EV subsidy rebates
The government of British Columbia has increased the maximum provincial rebate under the ‘CleanBC Go Electric Passenger Vehicle Rebate Program’ from $3,000 to $4,000. At the same time, the province decreased the funding for households with higher incomes.

China to extend sales tax exemption for NEVs to 2023

Funding granted for 1,200 low- and zero-emission buses in Germany

Canada introduces subsidies for medium and heavy EVs
The Canadian government has launched the new Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (IMHZEV) Program. The $550 million programme will run for four years, starting on July 11 and will provide purchase incentives worth around 50% of the price difference between an electric vehicle and a combustion vehicle.

Illinois introduces rebate programme for EVs
In the USA, a new rebate programme for EVs opened in Illinois on 1 July. Anyone who buys an electric vehicle (car, truck or van) can apply for a $4,000 rebate from the state. There is also a $1,500 rebate for electric motorcycles but not for electric mopeds.

In the Netherlands, the budget for government subsidies for new electric cars has been exhausted for this year. The government had set aside 71 million euros for this purpose – enough for 22,000 electric cars, which were subsidised with 3,350 euros each.
