Japan aims for zero sales of ICEs by 2040
It looks like 2040 will be the year that finishes fossil-fuel powered vehicles off for good. Japan has now joined the growing circle of countries to set that deadline. Tokyo though wants to work with substantial incentives rather than penalties.

The Golden State has set its course on climate action and the latest proposal requests to put a halt on all sales of gas guzzlers from 2040 onwards. Chances are for the zero-emission legislation to be passed into law.
French government cancels subsidies for PHEVs
With the beginning of 2018, several modifications within the government’s electric mobility programme are coming into effect. While electric-powered passenger cars and light commercial vehicles further benefit from a 6000-euro purchase rabat, PHEVs are no longer included in this list.
China extends tax rebates for NEVs
The People’s Republic is going to further exempt the 10 percent purchase tax on so-called new-energy vehicles (NEVs), as expected. The initiative was initially introduced in 2014 and got now government approval for three more years until end-2020.

Spain updates EV policies
Spain earmarks 35 million euros for electric mobility through the 2017 Movalt Plan that has finally been approved in Madrid. 20 millions are reserved to subsidise PHEV with new rules to apply for the first time.
EVs to park for half price in all of Norway
Many municipalities in Norway exempt electric cars from parking fees entirely, yet a national regulation is due to be introduced. Rather than allowing free parking, the rule calls for EVs to park for half the fee everywhere in Norway.
Beijing to tighten electric car subsidies
China will soon change its strategy for EV subsidies and wants to present a new plan. In the future, for which no date is yet specified, subsidies will apparently be allocated according to more detailed categories. These will take range, battery density and energy consumption into account.
German government advisors are pro EV quota
In its latest special report, the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU), a board consulting the German government for the last 45 years, recommends an EV sales share of 25 percent regarding passenger cars and light utility vehicles by 2025.
Liverpool fights air pollution
The city’s parliamentarians approve the installation of 100 EV charging points throughout Liverpool, but that’s not all: The city council also partners with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to calculate the costs to establish a Clean Air Zone, which shall be completed by March 2018.
