In the recently started research project “Bidirectional charge management”, the project partners want to develop the technologies for a charge management ready for series production. The results are to be evaluated in a field trial with 50 BMW i3 at the beginning of 2021.

BMW will not renew the i3

BMW has no plans for a successor to the i3. Pieter Nota, head of BMW sales told the Financial Times that the German luxury carmaker will instead concentrate on merging battery and plug-in technology with its other vehicles, while it drums up some new purely electric vehicles.

Share Now doubles electric fleet in Munich

The City of Munich and the BMW Group are expanding their cooperation in the field of e-mobility. On the basis of this partnership, the car sharing provider Share Now is expanding its Munich electric fleet from 85 at present to 200 BMW i3 by the end of 2019.

Rumours surrounding the BMW i3 receiving a battery upgrade have been circulating for some time and have now been amplified. Apparently BMW has been preparing intensively to introduce a 120 Ah battery by the end of 2018 or, early 2019.

EVgo & BMW launching 2nd-life battery project

For the first time, EVgo equipped one of their fast-charging station with a back-up made from reused batteries from the BMW i3. For now said stationary set-up is a standalone but EVgo say they are planning to expand such second-life applications.
