Headwind for two e-mobility projects in Berlin

In Berlin, a seemingly unlikely coalition is blocking two electric vehicle projects. The trade union Verdi refuses the purchase of 90 new electric buses by transit operator BVG. On top, the Senate could stop BVG’s and ViaVan’s ridesharing offer BerlKönig as early as April.

XCharge presents fast-charging for electric buses

The Chinese manufacturer XCharge is presenting its new fast-charging solutions for electric buses at Busworld. Together with Stromnetz Berlin, XCharge has already installed 30 DC chargers for BVG’s electric buses in Berlin this year.

Berlin public transport BVG orders 90 Solaris e-buses

The state of Berlin and public transit operator BVG are pushing ahead with the ramp-up phase for the procurement of electric buses and are purchasing a further 90 EVs. Polish manufacturer Solaris secured the contract and will deliver from spring 2020.

Berlin: BVG orders 15 Solaris buses

The Berlin-based public transport operator BVG is entering the next phase of electric bus procurement and ordered fully electric articulated buses for the first time. After the BVG Supervisory Board recently approved the award of the contract and the objection period has expired, Solaris has now been awarded the contract.

Berlin’s new ride-share to run 80% electric

The Berlin public transport operator BVG and Daimler subsidiary ViaVan have officially launched their ride-share program BerlKönig in Berlin. To start, up to 50 vehicles will operate from 5 pm until 5 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The majority of the fleet runs electric.

Berlin’s tourist double-deckers to go electric

The companies Tassima, Ziehl-Abegg and IAV are working together to electrify the tourist double-decker buses in Berlin. The diesel buses were once used for public transit, and will now be electrified to serve tourists.

BVG orders 30 electric buses for Berlin

Following a lengthy tender process, Berlin transport provider BVG has made its decision. The board approved the acquisition of 30 electric buses that are to arrive next year. Details on the manufacturer have not been disclosed but Daimler is a good guess although Solaris may be an option too.

Electric buses: Berlin forced to extend tender period

Berlin’s public transport company BVG issued a tender to procure 45 electric buses from next year but faces now difficulties due to a lack of applications, according to the “Berliner Zeitung”. Thus, just one manufacturer made an offer.
