Ricardo to offer H2 fuel cell retrofit for diesel buses

In the UK, Ricardo has partnered with Stagecoach North East to retrofit a diesel, double decker bus with a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. Ricardo is seeking to offer the hydrogen fuel cell retrofitted vehicles at around half the price of a new bus.

RVK orders up to 100 H2 fuel cell buses for Cologne

In Germany, Regional Transport Cologne (RVK) has made an order for up to 100 fuel cell buses. In the Europe-wide tender for the hydrogen-powered buses, Polish manufacturer Solaris was awarded 20 guaranteed and 20 optional buses and Wrightbus from Northern Ireland has taken an order for 20 guaranteed and 40 optional buses.

Hyzon & Fontaine Modification to retrofit diesel trucks

The US-based international manufacturer of fuel cell commercial vehicles Hyzon Motors has announced a retrofit programme called Repower to convert existing diesel trucks to zero-emission fuel cell propulsion. The first vehicles are to be converted this year.

Tevva orders fuel cell systems from Loop Energy

Canadian fuel cell specialist Loop Energy has received an order from British electric truck developer Tevva. Loop Energy will initially supply its 50 kW FC system T505 for use as a fuel cell range extender for Tevva’s electric 7.5-tonne platform, while the two companies negotiate a comprehensive supply agreement.

Faurecia awarded CEC grant for H2 trucking pilot

Symbio, Faurecia and Michelin have been granted the California Energy Commission Award for hydrogen fuel cell truck development. This gives the partners the chance to develop and demonstrate a hydrogen-fuelled, regional-haul Class 8 truck.

Winnipeg Transit to decarbonise entire bus fleet

Winnipeg Transit, providing bus services in the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba, plans to put a total of 110 battery and fuel cell buses into service by 2027. Complete electrification is to be achieved by 2040.

In Germany, the government-funded hydrogen filling station operator H2 Mobility has received an investment of 110 million euros to enable its next phase of growth. The primary investor is the French finance company Hy24. The expansion goals are accompanied by a focus on hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles of all sizes.

Five Solaris Urbino 12 H2 buses for Mallorca

In Spain’s Balearic Islands, Solaris has been awarded a contract by the municipal transport company EMT-Palma to supply five hydrogen-powered Urbino 12 hydrogens to Palma de Mallorca. The contract is worth approximately four million euros.

Australia co-funds charging and H2 infrastructure

The Australian government has launched the second round of its Future Fuels Fund. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) will provide $127.9 million to encourage fleet operators to integrate battery and hydrogen vehicles into their fleets by co-financing charging facilities and H2 refuelling stations.

Victoria supports H2 transport infrastructure pilots

In the Australian state of Victoria, the government has backed studies and trials for the use of green hydrogen (made from renewables) for use in heavy transport. The funding of 7 million Australian dollars (4.43 million euros) should help support refuelling stations and the development of fuel cell electric buses among other things.

The Norwegian hydrogen storage specialist Hexagon Purus has been contracted by two major truck manufacturers in North America to deliver complete vehicle integration of two hydrogen-powered class 8 trucks. Hexagon Purus will assemble the trucks with zero-emission systems and deliver the complete trucks.

Hyzon and Geesinknorba agree on H2 garbage trucks

Hyzon Motors has become the exclusive vendor for hydrogen fuel cell trucks for the Dutch refuse collection company Geesinknorba. Under the agreement, 300 trucks or more are to be supplied by Hyzon during the three-year contract. The first trucks are destined for Barcelona where Geesinknorba has been contracted to provide zero-emission trucks.

S.Korea builds charging and H2 stations

The government of South Korea is planning a significant expansion of the infrastructure for battery and hydrogen vehicles. By the end of this year there should be over 1,000 charging stations and 43 hydrogen stations along motorways by the end of 2022.
