Mercedes reveals serial eActros with 400km range
Mercedes-Benz Trucks today presented the series version of the eActros. The battery-electric truck for heavy-duty distribution has noticeably improved performance data compared to the prototypes that were tested by customers for a good two years. Series production is scheduled to start in the second half of the year in Wörth.
Mainz orders 12 Solaris articulated electric buses
In Germany, the city of Mainz’s municipal utility subsidiary Mainzer Mobilität has ordered twelve battery-powered electric articulated buses from the Polish manufacturer Solaris for delivery to Mainz in the first quarter of 2022. In addition, an option has been agreed upon for a further eleven vehicles that could be delivered by the end of 2022.

Tesla may face double trouble in Germany
In Germany, state government authorities in the Rheinland area are investigating possible violations of the Working Hours Act at the German Tesla subsidiary Tesla Grohmann Automation. Start of Saft battery cell pilot production in France
France’s head of state Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s research minister Anja Karliczek have given the official go-ahead for a battery cell pilot production in a factory of the manufacturer Saft in Nersac, southwest France. The pilot plant is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2021.
Mercedes-Benz opens new e-truck testing centre
Mercedes-Benz has opened an expanded development and test centre at its truck plant in the German town of Wörth after a year and a half of construction. This is where solutions for connected, autonomous and electric driving for trucks will be developed and tested.
European batteries: Opel, PSA & Saft build for 64 GWh
This week, the EU Commission gave the go-ahead for what is being called “the battery alliance” in seven European countries. Subsidies were approved for 32 GWh battery cell production with PSA and Saft at the Opel factory in Kaiserslautern, Germany and an identical plant in France, making a total production capacity of 64 GWh.
PSA, Opel and Saft battery consortium ready to go
The Franco-German initiative announced last December for setting up a battery cell production facility is becoming concrete. The economic ministries of both countries have now proposed the alliance as the first consortium for funding from the EU Commission.
Tesla in talks for additional Gigafactory
Tesla has reportedly begun preliminary talks with representatives from the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland, regarding the construction of Tesla’s first Gigafactory in Europe. The facility will produce both cars and batteries.
