Siemens to deliver battery-electric trains to Hesse
Siemens Mobility has received another order for its battery trains. The Hessian public transport operator Hessische Landesbahn is procuring three two-car Mireo Plus B. The new battery trains will operate on the local lines ‘Oberwesterwaldbahn’ (OWB) and the ‘Unterwesterwaldbahn’ (UWB).

Mercedes reveals serial eActros with 400km range
Mercedes-Benz Trucks today presented the series version of the eActros. The battery-electric truck for heavy-duty distribution has noticeably improved performance data compared to the prototypes that were tested by customers for a good two years. Series production is scheduled to start in the second half of the year in Wörth.

Mainz orders 12 Solaris articulated electric buses
In Germany, the city of Mainz’s municipal utility subsidiary Mainzer Mobilität has ordered twelve battery-powered electric articulated buses from the Polish manufacturer Solaris for delivery to Mainz in the first quarter of 2022. In addition, an option has been agreed upon for a further eleven vehicles that could be delivered by the end of 2022.

eCitaoro G to reach 220 km range with solid-state batteries
The Mercedes eCitaro G articulated bus has celebrated its world premiere. The electric bus is now also optionally available with solid-state batteries that can provide a range of up to 220 kilometres. Mercedes has also revealed more on the series production of the eActros.

Start of Saft battery cell pilot production in France
France’s head of state Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s research minister Anja Karliczek have given the official go-ahead for a battery cell pilot production in a factory of the manufacturer Saft in Nersac, southwest France. The pilot plant is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2021.

European batteries: Opel, PSA & Saft build for 64 GWh
This week, the EU Commission gave the go-ahead for what is being called “the battery alliance” in seven European countries. Subsidies were approved for 32 GWh battery cell production with PSA and Saft at the Opel factory in Kaiserslautern, Germany and an identical plant in France, making a total production capacity of 64 GWh.

EU Commission approves €3.2 billion for battery research
The European Commission has now approved funding totalling 3.2 billion euros for pan-European research and innovation projects by seven Member States in all segments of the battery value chain. Among others, Opel and BMW will benefit from the funds.

PSA, Opel and Saft battery consortium ready to go
The Franco-German initiative announced last December for setting up a battery cell production facility is becoming concrete. The economic ministries of both countries have now proposed the alliance as the first consortium for funding from the EU Commission.

Tesla in talks for additional Gigafactory
