With the delivery of its four-millionth battery-electric vehicle, the Volkswagen Group has reached a new milestone in its electrification strategy. The announcement comes just days after the VW brand reported the delivery of its two-millionth electric car.

The German carmaker has been counting BEV deliveries since 2013, when the VW e-up! became the company’s first series-produced all-electric model. The VW e-Golf followed in 2014. From 2019 onwards, volumes increased significantly as the group launched a cross-brand product offensive based on its Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB).

Volkswagen also highlights the following key figures:

  • To date, around three million group vehicles based on the MEB platform have been delivered.
  • In 2025, the Group ranked among the global top 5 BEV manufacturers.
  • In 2025, the Group was the clear BEV market leader in its home market, Europe, with a market share of around 27 percent.
  • Within two years, the Group comprehensively renewed its portfolio and launched around 60 new models. Approximately one-third of these feature a fully electric powertrain.
  • In 2026, the Group will introduce more than 20 new models, with around half of them being fully electric.

Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, stated that the company’s achievement of four million BEVs underscores its ambition to become the global technology leader in the automotive industry: “Our product offensive is paying off: we are one of the top five manufacturers worldwide and have one of the broadest all-electric model portfolios in our industry. We are continuing to expand it this year with our Electric Urban Car Family in the attractive entry segment.”

Under the Electric Urban Car Family label, Volkswagen is marketing its upcoming range of small electric cars, which includes the Cupra Raval, the VW ID. Polo, the VW ID. Cross, and the Škoda Epiq. The Raval will be the first to launch, with order books set to open in the first half of 2026. The other three small electric models are also expected to follow this year, making them part of the BEVs announced for 2026.

Oliver Blume further emphasised that the Group took nearly ten years to deliver its first million all-electric vehicles. “The fourth million took just one year. We will further accelerate this momentum with our exciting products and innovative technologies.”

The Group’s brands currently offer around 30 all-electric passenger car models across all segments. Additionally, there are battery-electric trucks and buses from the Traton brands Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus. Volkswagen now produces its electric vehicles at around 20 sites across several European markets, China, the USA, and Brazil. Among the electric models scheduled for launch this year are the aforementioned small electric cars, as well as important new electric models in China (including those from the Audi brand).

However, Volkswagen particularly emphasises its strengths in Europe, which are also reflected in the latest annual report. Since 2013, around 77 per cent of the four million BEVs have been manufactured in the Group’s home market, Europe.

“There are 11 BEV production sites here, located in Emden, Zwickau, Hanover, Bratislava, Mlada Boleslav, Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm, Leipzig, Zuffenhausen, Munich and Södertälje. With Pamplona and Martorell, two further locations are in the starting blocks,” the company states. Furthermore, preparations for BEV production are underway at the Volkswagen brand’s main plant in Wolfsburg, as well as at Bentley’s facility in Crewe, England.

China also plays a key role. In the world’s largest electric vehicle market, around one in five of the Volkswagen Group’s BEVs has been produced to date. The company currently operates four EV production sites in the country: Anting, Foshan, Hefei and Changchun.

In the United States, Volkswagen has manufactured around three per cent of its BEVs so far at its plants in Chattanooga and Tulsa. In Brazil, meanwhile, the São Paulo plant recently started production of fully electric commercial vehicles.

Looking at where the BEVs were delivered, Volkswagen’s statistics show that 95 per cent went to the group’s core markets in Europe, China and the United States. Europe accounted for by far the largest share: since 2013, around 68 per cent of all-electric vehicles have been delivered to customers there. China followed with 20 per cent – in line with its share of production – while roughly eight per cent went to the US. All other markets combined accounted for about five per cent.

Volkswagen also breaks down the figures by brand groups. Unsurprisingly, the Core Brand Group, which covers the volume segment, accounted for around 72 per cent of BEV deliveries. Of the two million vehicles attributed to this group, roughly half were delivered by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. Škoda followed with about 480,000 units, Seat/Cupra with 230,000 units, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles with 140,000 units.

The Progressive Brand Group contributed around 22 per cent of all BEVs, including roughly 870,000 Audi models in the premium segment. A further six per cent came from the Sport Luxury Brand Group, comprising around 250,000 Porsche vehicles. Finally, the Trucks Brand Group accounted for approximately 0.3 per cent of BEV deliveries, equivalent to around 11,000 vehicles.

The most popular BEV segment, with a share of around 70 per cent, was the compact class. This includes vehicles such as the VW ID.3 and ID.4, the Škoda Enyaq, the Cupra Born, and the Audi Q4 e-tron. Furthermore, in terms of body styles, vehicles with an SUV or crossover silhouette were the most favoured among buyers, with more than every second BEV falling into this category.

The following list provides an overview of the ten most popular BEVs from the Volkswagen Group since the beginning of its electric era. Together, these top 10 models account for more than 80 per cent of the Group’s deliveries to date:
