Electric trucks and utility EVs by Renault from 2019
Renault Trucks says it is ready to launch an all-electric range next year, after testing had commenced with partners over ten years. It is thus not only one truck but a whole line of utility vehicles the French are gearing up for. A dedicated production line in the Normandy will start rolling by 2019.

Nikola plans $1bn plant to make fuel cell trucks in Arizona
Nikola Motor announced plans to set up shop in Arizona to make its H2 semi truck. A new factory will be build close to Phoenix from 2019 with production to start 2 years later. The start-up earmarked 1 billion dollars and says it will create 2,000 jobs.

Geely, Via Motors to make electric truck (REx)
Geely’s New Energy Vehicle subsidiary is joining forces with VIA Motors to develop a medium-duty electric truck with Volvo range extender. Software and systems control will come from Via and the e-truck is to launch in China and the Americas by 2019.

Volvo Trucks plans to launch electric truck in 2019
The company says that it wants to kick off sales of its upcoming electric-powered utility vehicle next year in Europe. Initially, the model shall be deployed in the good transport industry in metropolitan areas. A selection of clients will put first units into operation before the year’s end.

Nissan to launch electric bus with Leaf technology
Japan will see the start of an electric bus project that will utilise technology of the Nissan Leaf. Headed by Kumamoto University testing of the Yoka ECO Bus is to commence this February. The bus comes with three electric drives, batteries as well as the inverter of Nissan’s bestselling EV.

Geely acquires shares in AB Volvo
After taking over Swedish carmaker Volvo 2010, the Chinese Geely group is now also owning parts of the separately operating truck specialist AB Volvo. Geely replaces investor Cevian Capital and thus acquires shares worth 2,8bn euros.

Reservation of Tesla’s Semi now open to everybody
The Californian EV maker has installed an official reservation option on its website, paving the way for everybody to reserve one of the company’s electric trucks. PepsiCo directly orders 100 Tesla Semi trucks in the largest preorder to date.
