Solaris to premier lightweight hybrid bus in Poland
Busmaker Solaris of Poland is planning to launch a whole new hybrid bus at the TRANSEXPO in Kielce this October. The Solaris Urbino 12 LE lite hybrid is said to consume less than 30 litres of fuel per 100 km. The bus weighs under nine tons before taking up to 85 passengers.
USA: BYD form $500M JV to lease electric buses
China’s BYD has formed a joint venture with the San Francisco investor Generate Capital. The 200 million dollar JV will lease BYD electric buses to cities, schools and corporations in the States. The partners consider their business an “all-around win”.
Mercedes-Benz premiers eCitaro electric bus (video)
Finally, Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps of its all-electric bus, the eCitaro. At the world premiere in Germany, the firm said battery-electric vehicles mark only the start of a large family of zero emission buses. Next generations with fuel cells and solid-state batteries are to allow for ranges hitherto unthinkable in the bus business.
Beige electric cabs by LEVC kick-off in Germany
A bit of Britain has come to Germany today as LEVC launches their range extended cab in the country. The TX will cost just short of 60,000 euros and LEVC chairman Carl-Peter Forster believes the taxi will soon make it on “many significant markets” worldwide.
Cummins taking over Efficient Drivetrains
Cummins incorporates yet another e-mobility specialist as they acquire Efficient Drivetrains (EDI). The maker of electrified solutions for commercial vehicles is the third such acquisition for Cummins with which (ex) diesel-pros buy into the Zeitgeist.
Spanish CAF to take over bus maker Solaris
Spain’s railway company CAF wants to take over Polish bus maker Solaris. For CAF this means broadening their portfolio particularly in e-mobility while Solaris has been looking for investment. Projections suggests a price of over 300 million euros with approval expected by September 2018.
ZF and e.Go form e.Go Moove JV for electric vans
German supplier ZF and Aachen-based startup e.Go Mobile, that also worked with DP/DHL on the StreetScooter, have set up their planned joint venture e.Go Moove to produce electric vans from 2019. ZF is careful not to rival existing clients but is hoping for fast synergies and autonomous tech trials.
Renault presents complete electric truck range
Renault Trucks unveils two electric trucks to launch in 2019. The Renault Trucks D Z.E. and Renault Trucks D Wide Z.E. cover 16 and 26 tons respectively and complete the electric UV lineup starting with the Master Z.E. at 3.5 tons. The trucks will be made in Normandy, France.
eHighway pilot under construction on the Autobahn
Works have started on one of three eHighway projects in Germany. Led by Siemens, the track along the A1 motorway will enable hybrid trucks to charge while in motion via overhead wire. The pilot set to start in mid-2019 will receive power from renewable energy sources.
