MAN Truck & Bus has just received two orders from Hamburg for a total of 53 electric buses. Hamburger Hochbahn has ordered 17 Lion’s City 18 E, while an order from Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) includes 30 electric solo and six articulated buses. The first electric buses are to be delivered this year.

The German Federal Ministry of Transport is funding the procurement of 472 additional electric buses including charging infrastructure for Hamburg with almost 160 million euros. More funding decisions from the German Federal government will be handed over in the next few days.

Mercedes-Benz has handed over one eCitaro G electric articulated bus with solid-state batteries each to Hamburger Hochbahn and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein. They are basically the first all-electric articulated buses that will be on Hamburg’s roads.

Hamburg public transport operator Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) has completed the tender for a further 32 electric buses. The contracts were awarded to Irizar, MAN and Volvo. Delivery of the new vehicles is scheduled to begin at the end of 2021.
